my first itunes rental, iphones, and flying…

Sunday, April 20th, 2008

before going to hawaii for our vacation (other posts about that coming soon), i decided to try the itunes movie rental service. obviously, the goal was to find an easy way to keep diego occupied on the flight…so, i rented the simpsons and we watched it on the flight…twice :)

not only was the quality good, but it didn’t kill the battery. my only complaint = only one day to watch the video once you start it.

now, if only the iphone had an ebook solution that worked in offline mode!

in any event, on the way home, hawaiian air had an even better vid solution…a dvd player loaded with a number of movies and tv shows, all for $15…

sick…

Sunday, April 22nd, 2007

i rarely get sick, but when i do…i’m usually down for a while. seems like my health is matching our dreary weather this wknd. i was going to write about the web2expo (aka, “web2 for the rest of us”), but i can barely manage to type this note…

btw, iraq in fragments should have won best docmentary this year…simply amazing…

ps - i’ll put up my slides from web2 later this week…

more apple woes…

what a boring, but semi-productive weekend…

i spent 5 hours on saturday dealing with applecare and the folks at the genius bar (see my earlier post). at least my data is backed up now. plus, i’m fully “online” and set to work on any available computer….thanks to gmail, gcalendar, greader, meebo, xdrive, gdocs, salesforce, delicious, flickr, feedburner, and my blog…

besides spending half the wknd on my mac, i worked, started our taxes, and mowed the lawn, etc. wow…exciting….

at least i watched a little madness (go hoyas!) and saw casino royale - daniel craig is going to be a great bond…

perfect movie for a rainy wknd (with a 4 1/2 yr old)…

al gore and the IDA awards

Sunday, December 10th, 2006

it was great to hear gore and others give impassioned speeches about democracy and the importance of documentaries / journalism…i wonder what would have happened in 2000 if he had been allowed (or felt comfortable enough) to talk like this…

also, congrats to carrie and all the winners!

happy(?) feet, sledding, and cards

Tuesday, November 28th, 2006

very quick overview of our relaxing thanksgiving wknd…

  • went to tahoe and it snowed (3 inches) on wed night. diego and i went sledding on thursday and friday….he even went on his own!
  • got caught up on my old nytimes magazines…i highly recommend this article on elephants
  • saw happy feet…a disney (ok, warnerbros) version of an inconvenient truth. what an odd, dark, and interesting movie. didn’t fully work, but then again, i was engaged…not bad given that we were just trying to entertain our 4 year-old :)
  • taught diego how to play cards…well, it was only war, but he loved it…”hearts” by next year?
  • and…finally…worked
  • odd job #349: “snake wrangler”

    Saturday, July 29th, 2006

handling the snakes for “snakes on a plane” - what an odd/cool/dangerous job…

‘But if he were to be killed by a snake, he’d rather be squeezed to death than bitten.

“A constrictor is the way to go,” he says. “You get grabbed and literally you’re unconscious in 15 seconds max, which is a lot faster than any venom will kill you.”‘

gates and napoleon dynamite…pretty darn funny
