was the writers strike bad for hillary?

Sunday, February 24th, 2008

after watching SNL last night, my wife wondered what would have happened if the writers strike hadn’t happened…

in years past i don’t think it would have made much difference as the audience for SNL, letterman, leno, etc. isn’t huge. but, this election is all about youtube - possibly even more so amongst independent and young voters. most of the key debate scenes and campaign sanctioned videos have been top YT vids - many with MMs of views. so, imagine if we’d had two months of virally-spread videos like the ones below…i don’t know if anything would have changed, but….i wonder :)

video #1: weekend update with tina fey

video #2: opening sketch - the democratic debate

ps - i was too sick to stay up and watch SNL, so i caught these on YT this morning :)

absolutely hilarious…warning: not kid safe…

of course, i found this on another site, not on youtube. i love that they have millions of front-doors across the web - without owning any publishers or platforms (except their own video sharing platform of course!). they are completely CMS agnostic.

this story on cnn is “interesting” - it took him a year, but kyle started with a red paper clip and now he has a house. his blog has all of the info…btw, his rss subscribers are starting to take off…

create a funny video, earn $15k

Monday, June 19th, 2006

rafat pointed to an article saying that the diet coke/mentos video is doing quite well on revver.

in fact, it’s made the creators of the video $15k (after the 50% split with revver). this is pretty impressive actually - not bad for a short that cost $300 to make.

revver is smart - they are doing what they can to showcase this…they need a few “winners” to convince the world that there is actually a business model. of course, these things will always be hit driven - i.e, only a few folks will make meaningful money. the rest will be content with some pocket change and some fame…
