early start on my tahoe vacation or the techcrunch party…what to do?

Monday, August 21st, 2006

well, i chose (actually, it was beyond my control) to head up to tahoe

mike, thanks for getting me on the list. unfortunately, i thought the party was thursday night…ughh…

anyways, sounds like i missed quite a little shindig. while i’m bummed, i’m also a bit worried about the state of things. i’m sure the party was great, but jeez, is that all the tech folks talked about on saturday? :)

i know that people are creating real value this time around, but i’m a little troubled by the spate of parties…it’s not any one event - just the vibe…

update: in general, i agree with mr. hornik…it’s just that the number of parties scares me…

my yahoo and feed recommendations…

Saturday, August 12th, 2006

looks like my yahoo quietly rolled out “feed recommendations” - based on a user’s overall yahoo usage and RSS subscriptions. cool! congrats to my former colleagues :)

i’ve been waiting for yahoo to do something like this - we all know that discovery is critical. now they just need to start factoring in feeds from my community (what my friends are subscribing to).

they are currently promoting this in the “inside my yahoo” module that all new users get.

while this is a great start, what i really need is a way to prioritize my current feeds so that i read the most important thing first…

met with epic records today…

their team is awesome…they truly understand syndication and community.

on a side note, i can’t believe this picture (of their sign) came out so perfectly. from a nokia 6630 no less…

this is going to be big (really big!) - FeedBurner Networks

Saturday, August 5th, 2006

i’ll write more about this later, but i wanted to link to brad’s post on our latest publisher offering - feedburner networks.

brad just created the venture capital network using our platform. why did he do this? he outlines a bunch of reasons, but in general, publisher networks allow users to discover new content and, more importantly, advertisers to reach a key audience -> readers of vc bloggers…

just to be clear, users do NOT need to subscribe to the spliced “network” feed for this to work. it’s more about having publishers band together - enabling them to cross-promote each other and create a targeted ad network across sites and feeds.

wow…this is quite a thunderstorm

i’m stuck in midway…and believe me, i’m glad. this is a fierce storm…

anil on the power of livejournal…

from anil at 6A…

Six Apart - ProNet - rss + river of news + opml = LiveJournal?

If we mentioned a hosted web service that’s been around since 1999, offering powerful blogging, RSS publishing, RSS aggregation, a river-of-news style view of posts, and the ability to export any of your feed lists as OPML, you’d probably think “Didn’t Dave Winer make that?” Well, he probably did, but we’d also be describing LiveJournal.

this is so true. livejournal is a blogging plaform, rss aggregator (any rss feed can be your “friend”), and even a “delicious” like app (well, they had that feature anyway) all rolled into one great product. also, LJ’s aggregator is publicly available…i.,e your rss feeds page is open to anyone…it’s not just for personal consumption.
